Tuesday, August 21 ( Straight Down The Road @ 21:43:00 ) Just going to talk bout the camp that day and the Saturday's Morning, "The journey" at Ming Ong Methodist Church. It was emmmm fun, but the down side was they were using very complicated Mandarin and i don't understand two bits about what they were talking about.=.=" Conclusion : The Journey is an activity that is being organize in various steps to show how people go to missionary. They say that It was the next best thing to going oversea. there were money, airplane( yes, airplane) immigration, jail, and passport. Haha. pretty realistic huh? Well, the highlight of the camp on the last evening was cooking. We were divided into groups and each groups will come up with 2 dishes, We decided on spaghetti and doing the finger food for BBQ. Michelle and I cooked the Spaghetti and Lau Liew with Michelle string the sausage and fish balls on the skewers for BBQ. The first night camp out was not so successful. We ended up sleeping in the conference room due to the rainstorm. The second night's weather was permitting, thus we sleep out in the tent!^^ I slept well except for a few mosquitoe bites.. Today, i finally went and rebond my new-grown hair. Now it is a lot more tidy and neat but I still like my old hairstyle better. My front hair look well, but it is still not bad. Passable. I had my hair rebond in City Hair Saloon in City Point. The guy stylist was experienced so, good result. Below are random photos for the things I had mentioned earlier: The corridor at Methodist Kindergarten where part of The Journey was held. I regretted not going back for a visit earlier because the old wooden buildings had all been pull down. I missed the place, I missed my childhood. I search frantically at what I used to thought of was a big area but to no avail. no trace of the old buildings. T.T Waiting for our 9am "flight". At registration counter. The currency...lol..Poorer.. I got initial of 9715..Lotsa money, but not enough. ![]() The Immigration..LOL..pretty real huh? At the Embassy of kainantu. The officer damn ngiao ji can.. Totally penniless. I was among the ones with more money left over, We had to pile up our money to enable all group members to go through... I did not peek. Yes, This was the "plane" to Kainantu. We were all blind folded and taken to the plane.. The route of the flight..LOL..where is this? Scene in the plane. Looks kind off senget due to me taking the photo blindfolded. Simply snap.. Some more places that we passed. Air stewardesses? My passport... After taken this photo, we were put into jail..LOL Taken in the room where we learn the Lun Bawang language.. Taken before the whole group was being stuff into jail... Bio class~ we had fried peanut and some menots Sour Mix candy. What's holiday without the junk food. HAha..poor teacher. He can't eat sour food and the sweet turned his face as green as teh candy itself..=X No more sour and sweet stuff for ya! New hairstyle + New necklace. ^^ Visit here for more infos of the Sumatran Rhinos! These creatures that I resembled are at the brim of extinction! Help them! you can post the icon of the Save the Sumatran Rhinos in your blog, or any other web page. They are kind of cute in a way!^^ Why should we bother? Well, because we need to stop being so selfish and take care of these creatures and ensure that the future generation can actually come to know and see the real Sumatran Rhinos, not the one in the computer, photos or from television. We maybe rich in a way, but actually we are poor in others. According to Wikipedia, Sumatran Rhinos or Dicerorhinus sumatrensis is the smallest extant rhinoceros species, as well as the one with the most fur, which allows it to survive at very high altitudes in Borneo and Sumatra. Due to habitat loss and poaching, its numbers have declined and it is one of the world's rarest mammals. The Sumatran Rhinoceros is the last surviving species in the same group as the extinct Woolly Rhinoceros. Range The Sumatran Rhinoceros once inhabited a continuous distribution as far north as Myanmar and eastern India; however poaching has made it extinct in Thailand and Vietnam, while it has not been seen in Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar for many years. They currently are found primarily in Sumatra and Borneo. Thomas C. Jerdon noted the range and abundance of the species in 1874: The only other Asiatic rhinoceros is the two-horned one, Rhinoceros sumatranus, which has been shot as high as north latitude 23 or so, near Sandoway, and is suspected by Blyth to extend as far north as Assam. Though with two horns, it is quite of the same type as the one-horned species, having strong incisors, and not like the African two-horned species, which have deciduous incisors. It is the most common rhinoceros in the Indo-Chinese territories, extending to Sumatra only among the islands. —Jerdon, 1874. The mammals of India Reproduction Females become sexually mature at the age of 4-6 years, while males become sexually mature at 10 years old. Females only come into estrus when a male is nearby. The gestation period is around 400 days and the calf is weaned at 16-18 months and stays with the mother for 2-3 years. The birth interval for this species is 3-4 years. Population & Threats Sumatran Rhinoceros in Bronx Zoo Sumatran Rhinoceroses were once quite numerous throughout southeast Asia. Now only an estimated 300 individuals remain, almost all in Sundaland. It is critically endangered due to destruction of its rainforest habitat and illegal and unchecked poaching. In the past decade its population has dropped 50%. Most remaining habitat is in inaccessible mountainous areas of Indonesia, where the government has shown no inclination to discourage clearing of rhino habitat for the benefit of the timber industry. Poaching of Sumatran Rhinoceros, though less of a problem than with African Rhinoceros (at least in terms of number of animals killed), is particularly insidious because dealers who stock Sumatran Rhinoceros horn (whose price is unknown but is probably at least $200 per gram), know that once the species becomes extinct, the price of its horn will likely dramatically increase. Attempts to replenish the population by breeding them in captivity have proved difficult. However, there have been three recent births of Sumatran Rhinoceros calves, and all three to the same mother and father named "Emi" and "Ipuh" at the Cincinnati Zoo in Cincinnati, Ohio: A male calf, named "Andalas", in September 2001 [1], which has since been returned to the Indonesian government and the island of Sumatra to take part in further breeding programs [2]; A female calf, named "Suci", on July 30, 2004 [3], which continues to remain with its parents in Cincinnati; And the newest addition, a second male calf named "Harapan" or "Harry", on April 29, 2007 [4]. Come on people! We got to save the horny creatures! They are our Malaysian Heritage and judging by the number left in the world (about 300) we seriously need to do more!
